Building Worlds That Outlive the Page and Screen: The Art of Comics, Games and Animation Worldbuilding
Saturday September 26, 2026 starting 6:00 pm to 6:45 pm | Room: 343-344

From comic books, gaming screens, and animated films, artists build worlds that feel immersive and real. How do artists create these places that people want to explore, revisit, and think about long after the story ends? Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) faculty members Laurence Arcadias, Jordan Jackson, Jabari Weathers, and Greg Lane bring their diverse perspectives from illustration, animation, comics, and game design to a panel discussion about the art and practice of worldbuilding. Moderated by MICA Media Arts Chair Emily Hanako Momohara, the panel explores how artists develop characters, create compelling narratives, and build environments that reach across different mediums. Learn how worldbuilding can become a powerful, transferable skill for your creative practice.
